Omni Mobile 25600mah DC/USB-C PD/USB-A/Wireless Power Bank | Battery Backup for Laptops:MacBook/iPad/Dell XPS/Surface | Smart Devices:Nintendo Switch/GoPro | Resmed CPAP | Smartphones:iPhone/Samsung
- I received the Omni Mobile 25,600 promptly in two days after ordering (the joy of prime). It\'s about the size I was expecting but it does weigh a little more than I would have guessed. Build quality is pretty good, although it\'s just hard plastic with a slightly textured hard plastic on the rounded ends and on top where the wireless charging coil is. I bought it in anticipation for a 12-hour international flight but I also go into the mountains for multiple days at a time so I wanted something I knew could charge my phone multiple times over longer excursions and weight/size didn\'t matter.I haven\'t had a chance to really use it yet, but after just testing it the past day or so I do have two things I thought might be worth sharing:1. It\'s ironic that I bought a large battery that has quick charge capability, and yet it came with no way to charge it. You charge through the USB-C port and they do include the two cables in the photo, but there is no included power brick. Luckily I have a large USB-C power brick I can use, but if I didn\'t I\'d be stuck charging it very slowly off my laptop\'s USB.2. When I tried to test out the wireless charging on the day the battery was delivered it didn\'t work. No matter how I positioned my Note 8 on top of the battery it would not initiate charging (and I tried about 100 different positions). The support page says to position the phone \"horizontally towards the back\" which I tried but still got nothing. The three USB ports all worked fine (I have no way to test the DC port), but I couldn\'t get my phone to wirelessly charge. The next day I tried it again, and after repositioning my phone about five times I finally found a spot where the phone would start charging.Like I said I haven\'t been in a position where I had to rely on this battery, so I will update my review after I\'ve been able to test the full capacity of the battery. As of now, my 3-star review is based on build quality and finicky wireless charging.------------------------------ UPDATE --------------------------------Ok, I took this out of the country on a 10-day trip and I have a few more things I thought I\'d share.1. WIRELESS CHARGING: Is practically useless! When I first got the battery I couldn\'t get my Note 8 to wirelessly charge, but the next day I was able to get it to charge. I am still able to get my phone to start wirelessly charging, but it randomly stops charging! I have tested it, without bumping the phone it will sometimes stop wirelessly charging after a few minutes. It is incredibly frustrating and now I will never use that feature because it left me with 5% battery one morning.2. FINICKY CHARGING: When I plug the battery into an outlet to charge itself (using the USB-C port), I often have to plug it in twice to get it to actually start charging. When you plug it into a power source it would automatically turn on and start flashing the lights to show the percentage of charge. However, it doesn\'t always turn on when I plug it in, so I unplug it and insert the charging cable back into the USB-C port and then it turns on and starts charging.3. BATTERY CAPACITY: This is supposedly a huge battery and though I didn\'t do any scientific testing my gut tells me the actual capacity is noticeably less than 25,600 mAh. My Note 8 has a 3,300 mAh battery, and during my trip I charged it 5 times using the Omni Mobile. At the beginning of the trip the Omni Mobile was fully charged (4 lights showing) and at the end of the trip the Omni Mobile showed one light (less than 25% capacity remaining) Each time I plugged my phone into the Omni Mobile my phone had 50% or more battery remaining. Maybe I don\'t understand the concept here but 5 * ~1,600 mAh = ~8,000 mAh. If I only used around 8,000 mAh of the Omni Mobile it should have had around 17,600 mAh remaining or about 65% capacity (3 dots showing).4. CAUSED PHONE GLITCH: I have a Note 8 and once when I plugged it into the Omni Mobile using the USB-C cable provided, my phone lit up as it started to charge and then went black at the same time the Omni Mobile shutoff. I could not get my phone to turn on after that. I finally hard restarted it and everything has been working since.5. FREE ACCESSORY: In the box with the device there was a card explaining how to receive a free accessory from Omni Charge if I wrote a review on Amazon. Once you fill out the necessary info and prove you did write a review, you get to choose from 4 different accessories which is pretty nice! However, when I did it all of the accessories were specifically for the Omni 20 or Omni 13 products. I chose the case option even though it didn\'t appear that it would work for the Omni Mobile that I purchased.I didn\'t think a battery pack could be unreliable, but this one has given me enough problems that I have to periodically check on it to ensure it\'s actually charging my devices. I probably won\'t return it, but I don\'t think I\'d recommend it because it\'s a bigger hassle than a battery should be.
- I had bought a Omni13 and loved it so much I bought a 25600. Great to have around when the power goes out, or whenever you need a charge while there is no outlet around. Worth the price.
- Great for traveling or commuting with both a phone and laptop. Easy to store in a laptop case or backpack with all the power you need for the day!
- It looks and feels solid. I\'ve played with it some, but haven\'t put it under much stress--that\'ll be a few months down the road on a trip where it\'ll get cycled daily for a week. I\'ll post back if there are any problems with it at that time. But, for now, there are a few things I really like. First, it\'s flexible with respect to charging: it will charge via the DC port (5.5x2.1mm barrel connector) at 45W max from 5V-30V. For my use, that\'s great as I can use an AC adapter from another item I always take on trips. I can also use a 12v plug in my car...or even a USB-A power adapter running at 5V. It can also charge via USB-C ports at a max of 40W....I don\'t use USB-C much right now, but it\'ll be useful in the future. I charged it via the USB-C port with the included USB-A to USB-C cable and it worked fine (...it took forever because I used a cheap battery pack with only USB-A outputs running at 5v/2.1a. But it charged just fine.).I also like the adjustable output on the DC port. You turn this pack on with a long press on the power key. The front lights come on to show state of charge (apparently approximately 25% per light). Then double press the power key followed by single presses to select the DC port output voltage. Once you select a voltage, the unit alternates several times between telling you the state of charge and the voltage selected using the lights. Then it goes back to the lights showing you only the state of charge. The only downside is some inconsistency in the user guide (e.g. at one point, it says the DC Port input is 5V-30V up to 2A....in another place, it says DC Port input is 4.5V-36V up to 3A. Both locations in the manual say 45W max. Customer service got back to me within a couple of days and said 4.5V-36V is the input range).I know some don\'t like that it does not come with a USB-C charger. It\'d be nice to have a charger included, but the price would have to go up. I think it\'s better to have no charger and a lower price. It does come with USB-C to USB-C and USB-A to USB-C cables.Overall, very happy with it thus far.
- My job recently transitioned to being 100% remote with the odd exception where one might need to come into the office for something. I\'ve been re-thinking the tech that I use in life and adjusting accordingly. My fiance who is a teacher of course has time off in the summer, but me still having to work would make taking vacations difficult. Today, my fiance went around to his students\' homes along with the rest of the teachers to do a graduation parade. Being able to work from home, I tagged along for the day and enjoyed the sunlight while continuing to plug away on my laptop, using iPhone tethered over USB to connect to a Citrix VDI session with a 1440p display cranked up to full brightness to be able to see in the sunlight. I charged my ThinkPad X1C5 which was already fully charged with USB-PD (not the DC output). As soon as we left home at 9:15, I plugged my laptop into the bank to keep the battery charged. Got home around 2pm, 5 hours later and the battery still says that it\'s half full and my laptop battery is still fully charged. For me, this completely fulfilled my expectations. The reason for 4/5 stars is that I was completely unable to get wireless charging to work. I read reviews that said that it was finnicky at best. I\'ve tried my personal iPhone XS Max, my fiance\'s XS, and my work iPhone 8. I didn\'t get any attempts to charge. I had no intention of using this wirelessly as my intended use is mainly for in the car and didn\'t reach out to customer service, but everything else is working just as I would have hoped. Seemingly rock solid device if you don\'t plan on using the wireless charging.
