Technics Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones, High-Fidelity Bluetooth Headphones with Multi-Point Connectivity, Impressive Call Quality, and Comfort Fit - EAH-A800-K Black
- Excellent (music) sound quality. Cleaner sound than the Sony XM2, which I found to be a bit dark/muddy (though still detailed and pretty nice sounding), but not as good as Sennheiser Momentum 4. Philips Fidelio L3 is also very nice sounding, maybe even slightly better than the Technics (but has other disappointments). Sub-bass (on Technics) is hair too much for my taste (i.e. tad over done so as to be a slightly unnatural, a little like listening to a movie instead of music), but certainly isn\'t enough to detract from my enjoyment of music. Bass in general good and tight, not overblown like a lot of earbuds and headphones these days. Bass-heads may prefer the Technics over the Philips as the latter has more neutral, less bass (but still sufficient) sound. Sennheiser\'s bass is probably a little better than the Technics. I think the Sennheiser is probably the best sounding of all of the headphones I mentioned, but they all still sound very good to me, so my choice of the Technics was more due to the controls, app, price, case, accessories.ANC is ok. Outside sounds are drastically reduced, though some higher frequency sounds do tend to come thru some. Headphones fold nicely (similar to the Sony XMs) and fit into a very nice, high quality, decently compact case. Much better quality case and accessories than Sennheiser and Philips. Case is on par with Sony, but is a little bigger (thicker and bigger footprint).App has the expected features (firmware update, ANC/transparency/off control, EQ), connects to headphones quickly and is easy to use. I like that the headphones have distinct, reliable, physical buttons.Overall, it\'s clear Technics put some serious effort into making this a quality, top-notch product. Does it perform better than the top ANC headphones? Not quite. But the overall package is excellent, and for the holiday sale price I got this at, I am very happy with my purchase.Pros:- Excellent sound. Maybe a slight criticism would be that treble isn\'t quite as crisp as Sennheiser or Philips but it\'s still very good. Bass is satisfying without being bloated or overwhelming, details are good, vocals sound nice.- Excellent controls with physical buttons- Folds up nicely- Very nice looking, high quality case- 3.5mm cable is high quality (unlike the super cheap cable included with the Sennheiser and Philips)- Less expensive than Sony XM- Battery life (with ANC on) is excellent.- Comfortable for me. Clamping force is a good balance, not too strong. After 3hrs, I didn\'t feel too hot or uncomfortable.Cons:- ANC is decent/good, but does not challenge class leaders Sony (and likely Bose, though I don\'t have personal experience with them). Eliminates lower frequencies very well, higher frequencies not quite as well.- App EQ controls could cover wider range/more frequencies. They cover 100Hz to 10kHz only, would\'ve liked control over further extension on both ends.- The single power on/off button doesn\'t provide any immediate feedback that it has turned on/off. The result is that when you hold the button down to power on, you may not realize that it has turned on, so you keep pressing, resulting in the headphone turning off again. It\'s only slightly bothersome. You make the mistake once, and you quickly learn to avoid it by just remembering to let go of the button press after a couple of seconds. (Tip: if you have ANC turned on, the big reduction of noise will tell you when headphones are turned on.) Also, the voice feedback it does give (it states battery level) is the same whether turning on or off, adding to the confusion.- Headphone looks fine, but it\'s design maybe isn\'t as modern, trim and sleek looking as some others.
- So I have been waiting for these for a few months now and I can say these are excellent headphones. I also have owned these which I will compare them to:Bowers & Wilkens PXSony 1000 MX3Master Dynamic MG20So first off these feel well made but not overly heavy like the B&W PX, and not as light or cheap feeling as the Sony\'s. The app works well has a lot of features and does not force you to turn on location. You don\'t need the app but it is nice and works well. There was a firmware update that applied pretty quickly and they actually described the update and what it added/fixed which is nice as most companies don\'t really tell you. The voiced turning on/off prompts are nice, very clear and what\'s cool is you can change the prompt language as well. I set mine to japanese and I like the voice, lol!The headphones are more comfortable than the Sony\'s and the PX\'s over time, my glasses didn\'t dig in to my face and the clamping force is pretty much spot on. Inside the ear cups there is clear large letters for Left and Right which lets you put them on much faster. With the Sony\'s I had to search for the small L/R text and was always annoying. The PX isn\'t to clear either on the left and right positioning. The PX I had I gave away as one of the volume buttons stopped responding and I had to adjust it from the device everytime. Bowers & Wilkens support is terrible and weeks of emails they still refused to help me solve the problem. I considered the PX7 but the carbon infused plastic they use on the frame is a poor choice and will snap on impact as it is very brittle and not made for flexibility. I am a Mechanical Design Engineer and can tell you that was a terrible material choice. You can also look at the reviews and see how many people have had them snap. They do sound good though just like the PX but the new ones build quality is poor. The Technics has multi device connectivity which is great as I connect to my phone and PC at the same time and its a smooth swap when calls come in. There are 8 mics (4 for NR) and the call test I did were well recieved my my friends even in breezy area was very clear on the other end.The battery is the biggest draw here and I actually got more then 50 hrs on the first session as I did not have noise reduction on max. You can also choose your level of ambient noise in, there are lots of settings in the app. There are physical buttons for volume/power/pairing which is nice. I am not a fan of touch interface but you can also set up the touch style functions you want through the app as one of the earcup outer panels is a touch interface. The sound is very good for my use, they require high end input to appreciate them and I do not have that so best search other reviews for high end stuff. I watch movies, audiobooks, and PC games and its great for my needs probably more than I need. The Master Dynamic MG20\'s I returned through RMA, for $500 I expected great stuff but it has this stupid auto off feature thet turns off the headphone after 10-15 minutes of use if it doesnt detect movement. I mean If I am sitting and watching TV or on the PC or even plane I\'m not really moving around alot and it was so frustrating as they were very good headphones otherwise especially the build quality. These also have a stupid app that requires your location to be on.Anyways for the price these are great, they are not cheap, but they are not price gouging either like some brands. The tech is cutting edge, battery life is the best on the market and they look good in an office setting, public or anywhere. I hope this review helps people with their decisions.
- I am by no means an audiophile but I know what sound profile I like. I am a bass head. That said, these do deliver a good thump. I’ve spent months really playing through genres and comparing to my other headsets. I compared it to the Yamaha E700A & L700A, and Apple AirPods Max. With the Yamahas they shine with heavy bass songs but lack a more open soundstage in comparison. With the Apple Max the bass is lacking in comparison but their soundstage is more open. I was really wanting something that was a hybrid of all the sets as far as sound goes, and these fit that need. They are a great in between set of cans. In comparing ANC and transparency modes, Apple is just amazing and transparency mode is all Apple. Technics has a better ANC than the Yamahas. For me, I’m just blocking out office conversations and some traffic. Jet noise gets through but it does dampen it decently. In my opinion, if you’re not in the Apple ecosystem, or don’t want to drop a huge amount of cash, these are a nice set. They handle well on all genres and have good bass. Not heavy feeling. I can wear for hours without discomfort. Speaking of hours, battery life is outstanding. I charge about once, maybe twice a month. I don’t use for calls so I can’t comment on that. I can only say I love music, I’m quite eclectic in my tastes, and these are my daily drivers to handle it all.
