Bose SoundDock Portable 30-Pin iPod/iPhone Speaker Dock

  • This a nice little speaker and it works really well. The original packaging was included which is nice but the back of remote and sides of the speaker show a lot of scuffing/light scratching wear that make this speaker what I would consider very good condition but not like new.
  • I have an iPod that is not Bluetooth compatible. This Bose docking speaker delivers great sound quality.
  • About me:I\'m a Computer Programmer/Photographer who uses a Laptop for coding, DSLR to take pictures and Good music player to listen to music. Simply put, I use a equipment for what it\'s meant for (and the manufacturer is good at making it). I\'m not a musician but still have a deep love for any music. For people who aren\'t anywhere close to getting a Bose:So if you\'re the kind to use a cellphone to take \"awesome\" pictures, DSLR to take videos and Dock Station to have Alarm and Radio, you rather go for one of those Dock Stations which has the fancy LED Display, Radio and Alarm clocks but sounds distorted when you try bumping it up beyond 60% Volume (basically Jack of All trades, master of none). They\'re still worth every penny if you need a Multi-purpose gadget. No complaints there. You can stop reading now. Those who are seriously considering a Bose Sounddock:Just remember, with Great Quality comes Great Price. :( If your love for music is greater than your desire to save a couple of hundred dollars of hard earned money, then this is my 2 cent. \"Buy it, blindly\" (else) \"Go to a store nearby and compare the quality of every Dock ever manufactured. 2 hours later, you\'d still buy this one\" Why? Pure \"Music Magic\". The SDP blew away every Dock on the shelf (of similar portable size).Sounddock Portable (or) Soundlink???Bluetooth is certainly a nice thing to have in a Dock Station, but Unfortunately SDP doesn\'t. But that isn\'t a deal-breaker and definitely not a reason you need to go for a Soundlink blindly. Soundlink sure is more portable (weight/dimension wise), but definitely slightly less on the volume front. And both Sounddock ($100 off) and Soundlink are same in price now ($299). I choose volume over portability and to fix the lack of Bluetooth, all I did was get a Sounddock Bluetooth Adapter for $15 off Amazon. So now, I have a truly portable SDP which can play music from almost anything using Bluetooth/IphoneDock/3.5mm AUX.I already have the Bose MIE2i mobile headset so I really wasn\'t surprised over the clarity of the SDP or the Ergonomics of Bose products. What really surprised me is the difference the Waveguide speaker technology has over other Docks. No matter which end of the room you are sitting in, it almost feels like sitting in the best seat of a Music concert... Pleasing to the ears. I still haven\'t jacked it up to max volume cos it\'s so loud, I don\'t want the apartment neighbors to complain. Ideal portable player for outdoor camping, BBQ, indoor parties/workout etc. It just doesn\'t play music... it gets you into the feel of it too. Bose has also paid attention to small practical problems of a Remote Control and frequently tangled up wires. You\'ll understand what I mean when you buy one.Only possible Design Flaw I noticed till now:I was a bit shocked at first, when I realized I had to keep adjusting the Iphone on the Dock for loose connection. Then I realized I hadn\'t docked in the iphone properly and fixed it again properly (need to apply more pressure than you would want to, on a $400 system). The Dock station pin looks a bit flimsy and MIGHT wear out eventually with heavy usage. But doesn\'t matter to me cos I\'m only planning to use it with Bluetooth mostly. My only reason for concern before buying is that, Amazon shows this product was launched in April 18, 2005 (atleast the earliest version of it). But after a lot of research I realized that this product (new version) is just 10 years ahead of the competition and the rest are still catching up. $100 off on a Bose might mean the next version is coming soon but who cares... I ain\'t no professional musician and I don\'t think my ears can differentiate anything that sounds better/crisper/nicer than this one. 5 stars!
  • I am by no means a Bose fanboy but I do have several Bose products. I don\'t purchase Bose products just because of the name, they do have products that are just not worth the money. Some of their earphones are just simply terrible. And some of their two-piece speaker systems with the Acoustimass module are not good. I ended up replacing those with floor standing speakers from other companies such as Polk Audio without the high premium cost that comes with Bose products. I have pretty much all the Bose iPod portable speaker systems including the original Bose SoundDock and SoundDock II. They were decent for their time but lacked an auxiliary port. For those of you wondering which Bose iPod player to go with, here is what you have been looking for. I wanted to give buyers an idea of what each has to offer and to try to clear the confusion. The Bose SoundDock Portable offers:1. Better sound than Soundlink. The bass on the SoundDock Portable simply is much better than the Soundlink. Why? Because the SoundDock Portable has an actual bass reflex port while the Soundlink has a transducer in the rear that acts as a bass speaker.2. Better mids and highs are offered by the SoundDock Portable.3. Easily replaceable battery. The Soundlink does not have an easy access for the battery and requires more work.4. Offers up to three hours of sound on one charge if played on loud settings. You can get more play time if you keep the volume lower. The Soundlink offers less play time but charges faster. The Bose Soundlink offers:1. Bluetooth capability. But that comes with a cost. You see, the sound that comes through bluetooth is not as pure as a direct connection.2. Small size. Because of its much smaller profile, it can be transported much more easily. Forget about transporting the SoundDock Portable with you on a trip. You will need to really think about packing this item as it is bulky and although you can close the iPod port, it is still a large device.3. Integrated cover that folds close.4. Charges faster than the SoundDock Portable which takes ten hours. The Soundlink charges up much faster. If you are looking for better sound, you should really go with the SoundDock Portable. It has a better room-filling sound and if bass matters to you, this is definitely the way to go. The Soundlink does have bass but it cannot beat the SoundDock Portable\'s bass reflex port. Both speaker systems have an auxiliary port for those who do not have iPods or iPads. I give the SoundDock Portable four stars as it is a decent speaker system. This product was $400 when it first came out and that was outrageous. If you are looking for portability, then you would have to go with the Soundlink. You do give up some of the sound that the SoundDock Portable offers but you really can\'t carry that one around as it is too bulky. Further, you would need a case for it as it does not have an integrated cover. As you can see the photo of mine, it has scratches from having been carried around. You will bump it against things. Don\'t get me wrong but the SoundDock Portable is durable. It just gets scratched easily. My only gripe with this speaker system is that the top of the highs and the bottom of the lows are clipped and I find this same characteristic with other Bose speakers especially with the cube speaker systems. It\'s as if the sound has been compressed. But otherwise this system sounds decent and still bests other iPod/iPad speaker systems from other companies. Smaller speaker size do limit the sound that you can get from them. There\'s no way around a full fledged home stereo system with full sized speakers. But then you can\'t carry them around and take them to the beach or even the yard can you?
