  • I gave this 4-Stars, because what does it say when Sony refuses to support Sony? There is no 3.5mm input jack. I knew that when purchasing, but the USB is hardly sufficient. Sony bends over backwards to accommodate iPod/Apple, but then doesn\'t provide compatibility to Sony products? The makes no sense, and is both appalling and reprehensible.Okay, so, this USB thing, let\'s talk about that.It will not read my Sony Walkman.I found a work-around. I have an old Coby 2.0 GB MP3 player that I bought at the Patriot Store at the VA hospital a few years ago, and that\'s what I\'m using, since it won\'t read my Sony. You cannot have more than 999 files of any kind on your MP3 player. Do not use mixed files, meaning no photos, not videos, just music only.Playlists don\'t work. You cannot have more than 256 folders.Okay, so I deleted everything on the Coby. Your MP3 player should have a \"Music Folder\" in the root directory. Open that folder, and then add folders that you want to use as quasi-PlayLists. For example I created these files....WorldPracticeRushGenesisChicagoBeat...to use as quasi-PlayListsCopy your MP3s from your hard drive to your MP3 player in the exact order that you want to hear the songs played back on the Sony MHC. So my Practice folder has tunes I practice to go stand on the street corner and play and I copied them in this exact order...Traffic - John BarleycornBen Harper - Another Lonely DayJohn Mayer - No Such ThingDuncan Sheik - Barely BreathingSnow Patrol - RunDirty Vegas - Days Go ByCold Play - Don\'t Panic...and so on, and that is the exact order they play back.Don\'t synchronize....copy. If you synchronize it will create file folders and the Sony MHC won\'t read more than 256 file folders, so you\'ll just end up deleting the file folders created by synching anyway. And don\'t add anything that has DRM. It won\'t play it.Is that a hassle and a half? Yes, it is, and if anyone has a better solution, man I\'m listening.Aside from that.....the sound is just freaking awesome.I can\'t get over how good this thing sounds, and I\'ve only started tweaking the equalizer. The photo is misleading in a good way. The photo makes it appear as one unit, but the speakers are actually separate from the audio component. I have it sitting atop a bookcase I got from Ikea with the speakers angled out.I noticed some had problems with FM reception, but that\'s a localized thing. I get Echoes just fine. The CD player will play almost anything. For those having trouble with the USB thing, you might have to resort to creating your own CDs to play.I like the remote control. Going back to the USB thing, use the file folder icon on the remote control to select the quasi-PlayList you want, and then use left/right triangle icons to move back and forth through the file folder to select the songs you want.It\'s tragic really. This thing looks great and sounds great, but it won\'t read Sony on USB.I\'ve spent my entire life avoiding \"all things Apple\" and the last thing I want to do is get an iPod just so I can have some functionality.Hope that helps.
  • Bought it to play C.D\'s only originally. I find when turning up the volume on a song you want to hear louder that I get more bass even with the bass boost off.It sounds very good on medium volume and songs with less bass than artists like Imagine Dragon and other music with a good amount of bass.I set it to the pop setting for more treble since you can\'t adjust treble/bass.If anyone has a hint on how to change that other than what I found, please advise me.Its a good stereo/*boom box* for the money so far.Crossing fingers. Not as portable as one would expect, but not why I personally purchased it.Has FM/ no A.M. which is fine with me.Has a wire antenna that has to be hung up, UPDATE 12/15:I attached an old TV antenna wire to the flexible wire and it picks up a lot of stations now that it wouldn\'t with the wire alone. The radio sound is superb, like a very expensive sound systemThe speakers are not attached for a reason, although pic makes it look like one unit. (It would vibrate) the stereo to much. You do need a space where its not to close to a wall or the speakers to the unit and you don\'t want to try and put the speakers on book shelves with no air circulation as you get less vibration from speakers when \"not closed in\".The instructions/directions were a bit confusing on how to use certain features in the manual, as are the control settings and features on the unit. Contacted Sony and got answers to my questions regarding my issues there. The remote working would make it easier to operate and enjoy the first week or two.* have since gotten a working remote and like that added feature* esp when working out.The remote was defective/inoperative from day one, contacted Sony and they wanted to charge me for a new one and said it was Amazons problem, not Sony\'s, but that I could buy one from them. *Please*Amazon is being kind enough to absorb the cost of the remote replacement.I did not want to have to send the entire unit back and not have music 2 weeks over a remote. Will update review if have issues later. I got the extended warranty/protection plan and hope i wont need it.Its just day 2.12/3/2014 still like this unit a lot and no issues, play every day.The FM comes in clearer and sounds even better with the antenna adjustment.
