iFi Micro iDSD Signature Transportable DAC and Headphone Amp
- I have listened to headphone amps costing up to 8000.00 dollars , the ifi is not that good but the sound quality and features far exceed anything in this price range. Without naming other products I listened to my iDSD in direct comparison to a friends 2500.00 dollar tube amp and the sound was at least equal
- [WHAT I RAN ON IT]Ok, so first let me mention what I have played on this using the software Tidal and Foobar2000, I have played the fiio fh7,KZ Zax, dt880(600ohm), and sennheiser 650s.[AMP]And as far as the amp goes I had no problem with my dt880s, running on the high end of volume on normal mode, and using my fh7 iem on the iematch let’s you use more power sensitive items and more accurately change the volume[PORTABILITY and accessories]So, I would not call this pocketable, though it comes with a plate and rubber bands to strap your phone onto it, it is too thick and heavy to use in a pocket, but is great to throw in your backpack with the included bag as the onboard battery has some decent life to it, being around 10 hrs for me.[DAC/SOUND]Great for the price, having a more balanced warmer output, but as with ifi, the xbass and 3D mode rocks, xbass adds some good bass and 3D adds well, more of a 3D effect, essentially noticeable on my IEMs, instead of coming left to right, it makes it feel more open, I will say for the 3D switch It is hard for my fingers to move it without bumping the volume notch (sorry for poor explanation, It’s hard for me to explain)[IS IT WORTH AND USABILITY ]This can also be subjective, If you are getting this I recommend you are the person who sits down to listen to music and nothing else to truly appreciate it, it feels well built and has good settings to match almost any device and listening style, if you are unsure if you want to drop this type of money in this I recommend you get there Hip Dac to start as it has a burr brown chip(same as this) and overall will give you a good sense of how this one will sound. It is pretty much a plug and play, For my pc I did find I needed to download their usb driver to get MQA to work(also put tidal in exclusive listening mode) but over all it is good.
- Build quality is excellent. All switches and ports are machined perfectly with no play. Volume knob is nice and smooth. Aluminum casing is nice and the whole things feels very solid. 5 stars. The hip-dac2, which I also own, does not compare in terms of upper frequency detail retrieval, imaging, low end texture, and overall oomph/power. I would say an improvement over the hip-dac2 in terms of a percentage is around 40%.All that being said, I still love the hip-dac2 and it\'s portability, but if you want something that\'s basically a portable high-end desktop unit, get this. Nothing better under $1,000 IMHO.
- I am a fan of iFi products and this one did not disappoint. I can\'t really speak to all the technical aspects, but it just makes the listening experience more enjoyable. The ability to adjust the sound with the various buttons is a big plus. I am very happy with the purchase.
- Beautiful sounding ! Just a touch less transparent than Diablo , but for boosted bass and highs , this is the one ! And less expensive too !
- +Properly powered Hifiman Arya’s and Sennheiser HD600’s+Portable (not pocketable)-Unit would randomly shut down on me even when fully charged-USB C port and USB A in port had significant play and just didn’t feel like a $750 device.
- The one star is for the purchase experience. If you\'re using it \"bluetooth\" or USB access, I\'d say it\'s probably great, if overpriced for what it does. But the seller\'s non-communication and outright dishonesty with respect to my return make it necessary for me to leave this review. More communication and less offloading of their professional responsibilities would\'ve made this transaction a LOT less troublesome.
