- I’ve had my sennheiser HD800s headphones for about 3 years now. Now at this point I don’t feel like I’ve ever really heard them. I’ve got a symphony apogee, lynx Hilo, benchmark DAC 1, fiio Q3, fiio btr5, dragonfly black, dragonfly red, symphony duet 2, Focusrite Forte, chord mojo, etc……. For the first time I get to hear what these headphones can do, and it’s amazing. Thank you Topping G5. Even at low volume you can hear every nuance, every hint of detail. Reverb tails go in for days. 100% 3D sound. So full and so rich. People are so right about not missing the true balanced end. My next step to to go from my lynx Hilo into the aux of this unit, and I bet that goes over the top. I’m on Bluetooth so far and it sounds amazing! Long story short, just buy it.
- Awesome product. Far surpassed expectations on quality. May not come with a lightning to usb-c OTG cable if you\'re on iPhone/iPad, so if that\'s you then you\'ll have to get a FiiO LT-LT1/LT-LT3 or other lightning to usb-c OTG cable available on Amazon.
- Congratulations! You have managed to sort through Topping\'s endless supply of confusing hardware and landed on this G5 product. While it may sound like I am bashing on Topping, that is not the case. What I do gripe about is releasing so many products you have trouble separating anything out from the rest, and Topping, along with a few other companies, is a master of this. However, this product is a fantastic DAC/Amp for the price. As a previous reviewer pointed out, you will need an additional cable if you wish to connect this to your iPhone as one does not come with in the box. Also, the cables that are ... generously ... included are extremely short, so you may also wish to get some longer cables if you plan to use this DAC/Amp wired. That being said, I have tried these both in Bluetooth mode and wired mode with my laptop, and I can tell you that the sound on this is excellent. You cannot go wrong with the sound. My desktop DAC/amp is the Ifi Zen Stack (the original versions), and I find this small portable device more enjoyable in many aspects than the Zen Stack. It does not have the X-bass boost button that the Zen DAC has, or the 3D setting found on the Zen Can, but it more than makes up for that with its seemingly more revealing sound signature. Everything seems a little cooler in the sound than the Zen Stack which, for me, is what I was looking for. For some people, I would even go so far as to say that this device could be a desktop app for you if desired. It works great for the few IEMs I have tested it out with, and I have also run anything from the Focal Elegia to the IBasso SR@ to the HiFiMan Edition XS planar. At $299.00, I think this device is at what I would call the upper end of price value given the extremely short cables it comes with. However, the sound more than makes up for the device shortcomings. Rambling review over.
