Harman Kardon BT Premium Over-Ear Headphones with Bluetooth Technology

  • For the money, these are great headphones. At a $200 price point, you definitely get what you pay for. I\'ve been researching a number of different manufacurers and models to find what works for me from a bluetooth headphone standpoint. Here\'s what I like about these:1. Solid construction. They\'re well built, without being a dumbbell on your head.2. The over-the-ears design is, in fact, over the ears. Your entire ear fits within the cushions.3. Battery life is amazing. Hours of playtime.4. Nice, compact design. No \"coffee cups\" protruding out of your ears. They\'re a slim profile design that is very form-fitting. My only complaint is that I wished that they would collapse like a lot of the competition, into the size of one ear piece. Small gripe, though. The enclosed carrying bag (8.5\" tall by 8.25\" wide by about 1.30\" deep) works well, and on the flip side, is slim. Again, minor point. (The earpieces turn 90 degrees so that they are flat and in the plane of the headpiece.)5. Finally, they sound GREAT! After reading several reviewer\'s complaints about peak sound by some across the board with this and other competitors, I believe that they are by those who want to blow their ears out within 5 years. The peak sound is more than adequate. If you want thumpy, boomy, muddy headphones, there are plenty to choose from. These sound awesome to me.6. You can use these as a bluetooth phone headset with your smartphone.7. Cost. A lot of the competition is double the price of these for similar features. As mentioned above, well worth the money for what you get!8. How they form fit to your head is by the leather strap across the top which has weak spring loaded internal extensions that extend when you pull these down on your head. The solid spring metal head piece is to keep the headphones clamped to your ears. There are two metal head pieces that come with these headphones, a small (which is the one that comes attached to the headphones) and a separate large version. These are easily interchangeable. If you put these on, extend the leather strap into place, and still have room between the strap and the metal head piece, then you\'re good with the small version. The final two accessories that come with these headphones are a male to male cord which allows you to physically connect the headphones to a device, and a charge cord, which has a USB male head on one end and the other is a headphone jack, which plugs into the same port as the male to male cord. Red light comes on if it needs charging and turns off when it\'s charged. That\'s it!--->>> Addendum: I plugged these in hard line from the device into the headphones via the cable. Whew!! If you are looking for about a 15% bump in Umph, that\'ll solve your problem. Using Bluetooth (as is the case with any Bluetooth set up), you lose some volume. But, it\'s equally distributed across the spectrum. Again, great headphones!
  • I wanted to give these wireless headphones 5 stars, mainly because the sound is really good for Bluetooth. I bought these because both pro reviews (e.g., CNET) and customers said the HK BT sound better than other Bluetooth headphones. I had considered the  Parrot Zik Touch-Activated Bluetooth Headphones  (the \"Porsche\" of wireless headphones), but they didn\'t match the sound of the HKs. In the end, I want headphones for their sound quality above looks or anything else. So, I went for the HKs (about half the price of the Ziks).Yes, the HK BTs sound really good for Bluetooth. But (and here\'s why they don\'t get 5 stars), when listening to Pandora on my iPhone 4, the wireless connection keeps dropping out (every 10-20 minutes). Other reviewers reported the same issue. That\'s a problem--something Harman Kardon need to fix right away if they want to stay competitive in the BT headphone market. One Amazon reviewer (or perhaps it was on the Apple site) mentioned that the HK BTs sounded even better than  Bowers & Wilkins P5 Mobile HiFi Stereo Headphones  wired headphones (also fold flat and come in a travel bag). I have the P5s, and have enjoyed them for months. I compared the HKs with the B&W P5s, and, while the HKs do sound good--crystal clear mids and highs, and reasonably good bass--they do not sound as good as the P5s (P5 bass is fuller and richer, with really clear mids and highs).Listening to music, I prefer the P5s over the HK BTs. (Like most, if not all, Bluetooth headphones and earbuds, the HK BT sound is digitally processed, and you can hear the electronic \"translation.\") However, for watching movies on my iPad mini, the HKs work well (much better than the  JayBird BlueBuds X Sport Bluetooth Headphones - Midnight Black , for instance).I do like the convenience and freedom of wireless, and so given HK BT\'s good sound (for Bluetooth), I\'m on the fence about whether to keep them. I\'m tempted to return them because (1) they drop the Bluetooth connection when listening to music on my iPhone; and (2) they are bulkier than the B&W P5s--i.e., not as comfortable to wear (a bit heavy) and not so good for travel.Recommendation: The  Harman Kardon Premium Over-Ear Bluetooth Wireless Headphones (Black)  are good-sounding wireless headphones. But if dropped Bluetooth connections will spoil your music enjoyment (you have to re-establish the BT connection, which is a pain), you might look around for something else. If HK were to fix the Bluetooth problem, I\'d give these 5 stars. But because of dropped BT signals, they don\'t quite merit 4 stars; yet (because of good audio and impressive, spacious sound stage) they merit more than 3 stars. My \"ideal\"headphones would be a Bluetooth version of Bowers & Wilkins P5s. Also, I\'d like to see Jawbone come out with either/both BT headphones and/or IEMs (in-ear monitors). I love what Jawbone have done with their  Jawbone JAMBOX Wireless Bluetooth Speaker - Black Diamond - Retail Packaging . By far the best sound of any small, portable speakers (for iPhone or iPads, etc.) -- wired or wireless! Their \"Live Audio\" software produces amazing surround sound from a tiny speaker. If you place the Jambox on your chest or hold up in front of your face, it\'s like having great-sounding, invisible headphones.Bottom line: 3.5 stars for the Harman-Kardon BT headphones.
