Infinity One Premium Wireless Portable Speaker

  • At 5 pounds and over 10 inches long and made entirely out of aluminum, this thing is a solid beast! Holding it, it feels about the same size as an American football. The fat cylindrical shape makes it as about as easy to pack as a football too (which is to say, not very!).The design is reminiscent of the smaller JBL Charge 2, but more far more rugged. It\'s one of the few speakers this size that can be charged up with a micro USB port. Its 5000MAh internal battery can also be recharged faster with the included AC adaptor (but who wants to keep track of yet another power adaptor??). There\'s a nice 5-segment battery meter by the rubber-covered ports. And it\'s the only speaker I know of that can also recharge your iPad with its 2.1A full size USB port. There are also holes where you could attach a carrying strap (but none are included). The sound is great. Didn\'t blow my socks off, but didn\'t disappoint. It\'s a big speaker and it sounds about what you\'d expect for a speaker this large size.
  • [Adding a note on 10-16-16: For some reason the only place I found to buy a new one at the retail price of $300 was direct from Infinity with free shipping, free returns and lifetime support.]I like testing speakers, especially small affordable ones. I\'ve owned a few different computer / portable speaker systems. This one is by far the best sounding I have heard. (I also compared it to a many competitors by listening to comparison reviews on Youtube.)It\'s larger and heavier than the smaller ones- you could carry it in a backpack but not in pocket or purse. The sound quality more than makes up for it. You can only get so much sound out of a tiny speaker system. It\'s not much bigger in size than may comparable bluetooth speakers, although it is heavy.I\'m amazed at the presence and soundstage of this system. I put one under my computer monitor and connected to it with a cable rather than bluetooth- which should give better sound quality. I then compared this to a big computer speaker system with a large woofer and two satellite speakers. While the larger system had a crisper and more detailed high end, and much more substantial bass, it did not have the same midrange clarity and presence for movie soundtracks. The Infinity\'s sound seems to come from a large area around the monitor, not from the speaker itself. It is detailed and easier to understand dialog than the large system or any of several headphones. It does not sound like a small portable speaker at all- tinniness is totally absent. So I use the large system for music, but the small portable Infinity is way better for movies, and takes up 4% of the space. The sound quality is good enough to enjoy any type of music including classical or jazz. It has a smooth sound that I associate with high end Infinity speakers that cost thousands of dollars. It is easy to use, ruggedly built, compact, and very good looking. The radiators at each end are well designed and effective. It looks like quality engineering and quality materials. It is heavy, but that is a good thing for a speaker\'s sound quality- meaning strong magnets and resistance to vibration, as well as rugged construction. I believe the heavy (5 lb) weight is necessary for the high sound quality this speaker delivers for its size (I measure it as 4\" in diameter by 9\" long). It has a speaker phone system that turns on and off automatically when linked to a phone, very convenient. While I can always hear the other end pretty well, sometimes the other person reports muddy sound, sometimes clear sound. The problem may occur when both of us are using speaker phones at the same time, so it might be due in part to the other end. The speaker phone is definitely usable and handy, but maybe not always giving the best sound quality for the other person. While the bluetooth worked great with a phone and a tablet, it did not work with Windows 7. It connected but I could not get the Windows 7 sound setup to go to the speaker. The problem could be my bluetooth adapter, my not knowing the complexities of Windows sound setup, or that Windows has issues with bluetooth sound. I did not want to spend a lot of hours on solving this since I didn\'t need the feature- using a cable connection gives better sound since it uses the computer\'s sound card\'s DAC and pre-amp, via analog signal, instead of using the bluetooth compression scheme.Pros:Sound quality good enough for someone like me that likes expensive speakers to enjoy classical and jazz music, and excellent sound quality for film soundtracks that beats larger computer systems.Good looking, rugged, compact, ergonomic controls.Bluetooth works flawlessly.Loud enough to fill a small room.Cons:Expensive.Too heavy and large to carry around everywhere, but portable for events.Speakerphone may not have best technology but is adequate.Complex troubleshooting to hook to Windows 7 via blueooth instead of cable, at least for me.
  • I Loved the sound of this speaker. Very full and had good bass. I bought the JBL Charge 2 as well and it was not loud enough and not enough bass. I planned on keeping this Infinity One, BUT then I noticed how much the Bluetooth kept skipping connection during my songs and it started driving me crazy. None of my other speakers do this, so I knew it wasn\'t my phone. I also read up and saw many others complaining about this. So I returned it also. I ended up getting Bose Soundlink III and very happy with it, it doesn\'t have Bluetooth connectivity issues at all. So bottom line, it sounds really great, very full and gets loud. If it wasn\'t for the bluetooth problem and reading about others also having this problem, I probably would have kept it.
  • for me this is best bluetooth speaker on the market at the time of this review (june 2015). i did my research, listened to many different speakers (yes including all bose) in stores or at friends\'. after reading the many great reviews of the infinity one and its recent 50$ price reduction i just gave it a go - the infinity did not disappoint! at first i was not entirely convinced - bass seemed a little weak. but it grew on me and after spending about week with this thing i am a big fan. it\'s strong point is the clear, airy sound. many bluetooth speakers are quite narrow sounding, especially the boses, they just don\'t manage to build up a wide stage. quite the contrary for the infinity, which fills the room and makes you forget this all comes from such a small speaker! at times you think you have a pair of proper stereo speakers in the room. perfect if you listen to classical and jazz music. and i found it also works really well for many types of electronic music, like deep house and the like. rock and pop sounds good too. i personally listen to a lot of hiphop actually - it might not be the best speaker for that genre as it doesn\'t have a booming bass. for me personally this is not an issue though. i own a lot of good, studio grade audio equipment (yamaha monitors, sony 7506), so the neutral, airy sounding infinity was just right. i\'d say everyone over 30 who has delicate sense for music will love this speaker. if you are below 25 and want to impress your friends in the park then you should probably buy something else.i love the design, materials seem high end (reminds me of apple products, definately on par with bose). the sounds quality is amazing, it\'s neutral, airy and crystal clear with good bass. not compressed boomy bose/beats bass though. it\'s just portable enough and will easily fit in a backpack (neither small nor big, about the size of medium sized water bootle or large beer can) with good battery life and usb charging option so you can recharge in the car (you cant do that with the bose). it has usb out to charge your phone which i think is completely useless. i occassionally use the speakerphone option which seems to work well when you\'re not too far form the device. it\'s water resistant, that\'s a plus, no?my only complaint is that they should have included a well designed pouch with that thing. one that protects the beautiful black paint and the side woofers. yes, you want to wrap that thing in something soft (sweater?) before tossing it in your backpack. i\'ll think i\'ll get the overpriced lens bag the other review mentioned.
