Moment Macro Lens - Attachment Lens for iPhone Pixel Galaxy OnePlus Phones
- I use this lens for taking macro pictures of flowers. With the addition of an available app for Android I am able to get interesting closeups that show my subjects from a different perspective than normal eyesight allows. The app was necessary to be able to select which lens my phone uses to take the picture without it I was capturing the lens itself in the shot.It seems to be a good quality lens and I have gotten some nice shots with it.
- This macro lens has worked great. The image quality using it with my iPhone 11 is very good.In a number of other reviews, it seems that people may not understand what they\'re going to get. This is a macro lens, so the depth of focus is very narrow. That\'s inherent to macro lenses. You need to be very close to the subject, less than about an inch and a half from the lens itself (not counting the light diffuser if you\'re using it). And even then, portions of the image a fraction of an inch farther or closer to the lens start going out of focus. Macro photography enthusiasts can use software to perform focus stacking to combine multiple photos into one with a greater depth of field (more of the image is in focus at the same time), though it only works well with stationary subjects and a mounted (or otherwise stationary) camera. I personally use the iOS app CameraPixels for capturing the photos, and Affinity Photo for focus stacking them. The results are fantastic!I only have two very minor criticisms. One, the very corners of the images seem to be a little obstructed, at least at certain focus levels. Barely noticeable, and it can be removed by cropping, which also removes a little distortion sometimes barely visible at those edges as well. Cropping to a square image removes this if you\'re very picky like me. The other criticism is that the light diffuser does not attach very securely. It\'s only held on with friction along a narrow edge. I don\'t really use it, so also not a significant problem for me.Overall, I\'m satisfied with. my purchase. It would be hard to get much better results with a phone camera.
- Let me first get some things clear, because people seem to buy this on impulse and do not know that they either need: A.) The Moment case for this lens to ATTACH TO. or B.) the mounting frame, also sold on the moment website for this lens to Attach to in case you don\'t want the case or your phone isn\'t compatible with it.On to the optics: quality, this lens OOZES quality. It produces TACK SHARP pictures, it\'s really amazing. The only downside I see with this lens is that you have to be less than an inch (25mm or 0.984252inches to be very precise, that is where focal plane is and, that is that. once you nail the focus though, you\'ll be REALLY pleased with the result.Images:1. toothbrush thistles2. dandelion blooming3. hibiscus stigmas4. 3.5mm headphone jack5. an ant6. very tiny cocoplum flowers7. azalea stigmas8. spanish moss up close9. incredibly tiny insect posing with an ant, on top of the mold from pic #1710. a jumping spider caught its prey!11. juniper leaves12. jumping spider 213. a lynx spider14. my eye15. a honeybee hiding behind a white clover flower16. 3.5mm headphone jack head, i digitally zoomed in to take this one.17. mold on a brick wallhope you enjoyed this \"review\"
- I use this lens to take close ups of property damage for insurance claims. I am able to document small cracks / defects in the material that would otherwise go unseen. This tool is one of the best tools in my arsenal and I am very happy that I purchased it. My only minor complaint is that the lens hood comes off easily and I know I’ll eventually drop the lens because of the hood.
- Overall very satisfied with the macro lens. I bought them for trips where I can’t bring my DSLR and just have my phone with me. These lenses are very light and portable, which makes them ideal if I’m traveling light. It is very easy to put on a lens or switch it out for another.A couple of things to note:Phone case required: as pointed out in other reviews this does require a special Moment phone case (sold separately). I know some of the other brands offer clip-on, but the ability to securely fasten the lenses onto my phone without having to worry about it falling or needing to adjust the position was actually a selling point for me. I’ve tried the clip one and always had trouble with vignetting (or poor positioning) and constantly needing to adjust. Also, the case itself is quite nice in its own right.Lens caps: These lenses come with one main lens cap and then a microfiber storage bag labeled with the lens name (which is handy if you have more than one); however, this does not have a cap second side, and I would really like to have a second lens cap.Macro focus distance: In order take in focus pictures with this lens, I have to be insanely close to the subject (to where the white plastic rim is practically touching it), which makes it a little awkward when trying to photograph certain subjects. This is actually my biggest complaint about the macro lens, but overall I am still very satisfied.
- Tips: for best overall sharpness, try to get the subject in one plane about an inch from lens. I use an iPhone 12 Pro Max with the moment case. I also tried the Moment telephoto (58mm) lens and that did not perform well with my phone, but the Macro lens is very powerful and works beautifully.
- You will be amazed at how macro this macro lens is. The two flower photos are of VERY tiny flowers that I have never been able to get a decent photo of. I would have to say that it is almost too macro. With my Google Pixel 4a phone, the focal point is very close. So close, that the rubber hood is soon discarded or stuffed back into the original box. The phone camera cannot auto-focus. It is all up to you.
