  • The key word here people is SPORTS. The trainers are geared towards people who appreciate listening to their music during running, exercising etc.... If you\'re just sitting on your couch watching TV and looking at your tablet, I suggest you pick a different set of headphones. You will not appreciate the features of the Gibsons and will instead be confused. The feature I read that\'s getting the most flack are the lack of noise canceling... Um hello, the headphones are made so that you can hear outside noise. It\'s for safety while running outside. You couch potatoes, do me a favor, throw a pair of noise canceling headphones on, and go take a jog in the street. Let me know how great your music sounds when you get hit by a car, or startled by a dog that happens to get close to you because you couldn\'t hear him over your Justin Bieber album. Sorry for the rant... Now on to my review.I love these headphones. Perfect size. I was currently running in Klipsch Image S4i ear buds and Monster iSport Immersions. They never let me down during runs. And the sound was good enough to keep me happy. Both were durable, sweatproof, and water proof. I\'ve left both in the washer machine and they still work perfect.. I purchased the Powerbeats 2 headphones in December, and they malfunctioned after three months of normal use. I really don\'t like wearing earbuds, they seem to always slip out while sweating causing the sound to distort. I was also never a fan of wearing over the ear headphones while running. They either are too big, uncomfortable, or get too hot to wear after a couple of miles. Until the Gibsons...The Gibsons are perfectly weighted, waterproof, and fit nice and comfortable after long runs. I have a total of 40+ miles ran in these headphones and they sound and fit great. I have not had a problem with them fitting over my sunglasses, I wear Oakley Radar Path sunglasses. The Gibsons fit perfectly over them, no adjustment needed (I have a 7 5/8 dome). The aero flex bar keeps the headphones in place, but I haven\'t needed to use the bar while running. The sound quality is top notch. Audio is set to equal levels. Bass sounds nice! I\'ve synced these up with an ipod Nano 7th generation and a Samsung Note 4. Both had no problems syncing and the NFC feature worked flawlessly with the Note 4.Like others have mentioned, the controls can be worked on. I have no problems with the play, skip, etc functions. The issue I have is with the power, Night Nav, and Bluetooth buttons. They sit too flush into the headphones. They are hard to find while running and impossible to feel for by touch. This doesn\'t bother me much because I rarely use those buttons while running. The Night Nav feature is nice but useless for most runners who run opposite of traffic.Another note I\'d like to make. The Safe Sound feature is great for runners. Press it once and it automatically lowers the volume of the music so that you can hear outside noise better. BUT make sure you remember to press the button again to turn the volume back up to normal. I made the mistake of not pushing the button again. I thought the sound sucked and was ready to return the headphones lol.... So if you feel the sound is lacking, you most likely have the SafeSound feature enabled.Good job by Gibson. I\'ll keep my fingers crossed for the durability and update my review. . Nice to finally get rid of my wires and still have good sounding headphones.UPDATE 10/20/15: The headphones have been performing well. I have over 100 miles ran in these things. I agree that these are not comfortable in hot weather if you are running anything over 10 miles. I took these on a run in hot weather, after the 10th mile i wanted to toss them into the woods. In cooler weather they are perfect for any distance. I do have one problem. During a half marathon i didn\'t fully charge the headphones. They died during the last mile. I got home, charged the headphones, but the safety light would not turn off for some reason. It wasn\'t flashing, just stayed on, even when the headphones were powered off. I didn\'t want to return the headphones because i needed them the next couple of days. So i performed surgery and disconnected the safety light on my own. I never use the light anyway. Headphones are back to normal again.UPDATE 4/7/2016 : Still working great. I use em every week. Wore them for the NYC Half and they kept my ears satisfied. I\'ve also washed the ear covers several times and they still look great.
  • Update 3: A year later, the mini USB plug broke and the headphones can\'t be charged any longer. In addition battery charge indicator (before the USB charging issue) was only reporting 40% or 60% charge level, as another reviewer reported. Sound was great but there were too many issues to justify a rating above 1-star.Update 2: no customer service response and it\'s been three weeks since I sent them an email via the Gibson website. Battery status shows that my unit is only charging to 60%. Avoid brand and product. Cut the rating down to two stars to acknowledge good sound quality.Update 1:I\'m editing my review after having been in touch with Gibson and come to the conclusion that my headphones\' battery is fine. That said here is my feedback after two weeks of use.- Sound quality is great. This is the best sounding Bluetooth headphones I\'ve used so far. This would justify a 5-star rating but there are a number of items that offset this.- Besides sound quality, i really enjoy the water shield feature which makes the Trainer a unique device in the bluetooth athletic market. The washable ear cushions are awesome as well and I wish they included a spare set. I can’t notice the cooling feature.- As others have pointed out, several buttons are barely usable. Pairing or turning the headphones on/off is essentially a two-hand operation, which you\'ll do before you put them on. Surprisingly, the volume buttons are difficult to use too, even when stationary. They are just minuscule and in a hard to reach place, which is a bit shocking for such a device. I find myself reaching for my iphone or (i)watch instead, which is a permanent annoyance and the worst problem with these headphones in my opinion.- Navigation is not great. Not a deal breaker but inconvenient. If you’ve used the JayBird BlueBuds X bluetooth headphones, you’ll find they’re quite quite similar (no dedicated back button and long press/multiple press to access additional functions). I think the Beats are more functional.- Regarding the battery, usage indication goes down in 20% increments from 100% to 20%, followed by 10%. The battery lasts a very long time. I didn’t measure this but I definitely can use them for several days without recharging. Note that the Trainer battery status goes down to 80% from 100% as soon as you unplug the headphones from the charger and connect them to your phone, initially leading me to think that my unit could charge up to 80% only. This is an odd display decision on Gibson’s part.- The previous point led me to wonder whether the headphones’ system can be upgraded via USB in the future. I couldn’t find any info about this.- I find that the Aero Flex rail isn’t that stabilizing but is a nice initiative.- I have no use for the lighting system and therefore have no opinion on that feature but i wish that Gibson had used the left side for larger volume buttons and to improve usability instead. In conclusion, these are probably the best sports headphones in the market. They are definitely worth the price. Given the navigation & buttons issues, I think Gibson have left room for another company to steal that top spot. Hopefully they will have addressed these problems in the next version.
