Sharp GXBT9 Portable Bluetooth Boom Box (Black), 10.80 x 29.50 x 11.00
- I bought this because I am so underwhelmed by portable bluetooth audio players. Their bass range is so tiny. And they are so overpriced. I feel like we are all being dooped. So, I thought to myself why not a plug in boom box like the old days? Just throw some D batteries in it if you need to take it somewhere with no power. Anyway, back to the review . . . The bass is EXCELLENT. very deep and very loud. But . . . it rattles the box.. kind of annoying (and why this is only getting 4/5 stars). Plus at very loud levels you cannot have the extra bass on bcus I fear the speakers would blow (again, poor design). But . . . even with the extra bass off, it thumps like a beast. Only other gripe (since I\'m a bit of a audiophile) is that they really should have put in a couple of tweeters at the upper outside corners. It could use a bit more fidelity in the highs. But it\'s ok... for $170. All around very satisfied. Bluetooth works wonderfully, as does the line-in. Haven\'t tried the guitar or karaoke yet. Great product!
- First let me state I have no other Bluetooth speakers to compare that to. With that said, I have owned different JVC Kaboom boxes. The Bluetooth and nfc functions flawlessly, the radio tuner works well, and the remote is not bad for a portable unit.I bought this because I wanted Bluetooth and imagined it is the same as the gx-m10, which has excellent reviews. It has Xtra bass, which makes a huge difference when in and the speakers play quite clear at higher volume. I wish there was a full eq instead of just presets and I\'m underwhelmed by its max volume. It can get decently loud but not at all what I expected based on the m10 reviews.Overall I\'m happy with the purchase and would recommend it to someone looking for a Bluetooth radio. I cannot comment on how well it\'s built, I did not tear it apart, and only own it for a short time; however, it appears to be well constructed.
- Good Boom Box. Already own the bigger brother unit from Sharp (orange front & discontinued) both are very nice. Good range of sound. Good Bass with a Bass Booster button also. Features reduced somewhat, from the Orange model; no sleep/timer feature and all connectivity is Bluetooth (except the audio input and the guitar/mic), The MP3 and phone can be Bluetooth to connect or USB, ie play music. The remote controls the ipod via USB (& I would assume Bluetooth also, haven\'t checked) Good FM receiver, wish it had AM for local sports. Use it with XM radio (audio input patch cable needed). Useful remote control. Otherwise extremely well worth the price. Owned JVC Kaboom, bought these as replacements.
I developed a power cord problem, seemed to be shorting out. The power cord would work intermittently when jiggled. I contacted Sharp and that\'s where this Revision originated. I WOULD RECCOMEND TRYING TO FIND ANOTHER COMPANY TO WORK WITH, SHARP IS NOT ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE. After being told to send in my Proof of Purchase, which was done within 5 minutes of the request Sharp proceeded to tell me, a week later, that I had to return the entire unit to Sharp so they could service a Universal Power Cord, They were unable to explain why other than stating they don\'t have any and it is not an accessory???? I explained to two service representatives that it is a UPC not an integrated power cord. I asked why I had to send in the product when they could just replace the power cord and not take the unit out of service (as I disabled a Sharp TV not in use and used it\'s UPC to power up the boom box just fine). I went through several levels of personnel and management. After escalating the issue past two supervisors I finally reached a supervisor who actually listened and realized that a Universal Power Cord is just that a power cord that is not integrated into the unit but instead is coupled on both ends to be plugged in to the wall and the back of the unit. The 2nd level supervisor took control of the situation and is working on resolving my issue....To Be Continued! - The media could not be loaded. I was wondering if the new GX-BT9 would address the AUX playing noticeably and disappointingly lower than the USB, CD, MIC, Guitar, and iPod dock on its GX-M10 (the orange-colored beast). They did! The Audio-In is just as loud as everything else on this booming black blaster. As noted by others, they took away the CD player and iPod connector but Bluetooth and USB cranks and works the same. That leaves one weakness they didn\'t address with this updated unit--the exposed and unprotected subs on the side speakers. I use this in schools and one thing kids like to do is press and push on exposed speakers. To help prevent this from happening, I bought a used boombox ($8.99) at a Thrift store, took the grills off and taped them to the sides with electrical tape. Just be aware of how you move it around and who\'s around it and you should have no problems with damage should you choose not to protect the sides. This is a big, high-quality unit that equals the sound and loudness of the the GX-M10 and looks like it means business with its sleek, black paint job.I own 3 other boomboxes in this class: JVC RV-NB70 Kaboom, JVC RV-NB10B Kaboom, and Sharp GX-M10. If you want loud and clear sound with good bass, the Sharps are the best (if you don\'t use them with the audio in) The newer JVC Kaboom is nice but is too expensive and not quite as loud the older JVC RV-NB10 Kaboom which is on par with the Sharps but difficult to find.I hook this up to a Cobra 400-Watt inverter with a sealed-lead acid batteries and push it around in a jogging stroller to blast on 2 hour jogs and it stands up to the abuse. I teach group fitness classes and bootcamp sessions with it outside and in exercise studios. It blasts! It doesn’t back down and participants report that they enjoy the sound it puts out. It is a hard decision to make with all the speakers out on the market however, this one is a brute and I’m glad I purchased it!
- I would say it is a good boombox for the price. But it is not as nice as my GX10 buy a long shot. I only ordered it for the bluetooth. So to have a CD player and bluetooth you will have to own BOTH. Crazy huh.
