Pioneer X-SMC4-K AirPlay Bluetooth Music System (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

  • For the current price at Amazon, this Pio Elite ipod dock speaker will justify the cost if you only need a speaker ipod dock to listen to MOG or Spotify as your desktop unit. The bluetooth feature is nice without any ugly cables hanging on your desk. FM. receiption is okay where I live. No complaints with these two features. I do not need Internet Acess or Internet radio, so I would not comment on these features.I am a big Pio Elite fan when come to home theater AVR however the x-smc 4k sound quality dissapointed me at the first try. To me, it sounds dry and grainy. Hopefully after a break in period, the speakers will settle for smoother sound. All in all, if you need a bluetooth ipod speakers for less than $170.00, the X-SMC 4 k is not a bad deal. My near field listening with the volume control between 16 to 18 dial that did not distort as some reviewers claimed at louder volume .If you look for a decent sound ipod dock speaker that is above the norm in the range of $600.00 , go with the Samsung DAE 750 with vacum tubes at pre amp stage. I own the Samsung and I have not find one ipod dock speaker that has better sound quality than the Samsung DAE 750. The Pio Elite X-SMC 4 definitely does not qualify for the $ 400.00 to $600.00 MSRP. I bought this unit for what it\'s worth, $150.00. The X-SMC 4k is the Elite line of Pioneer for $150.00 plus shipping is no brainer. Its classy looking with the LCD screen will guarantees a WAF.Folow-up:The remote control works fine with main menu but when I went into sub-menu to change let say bass or treble level, the unit would not response to the remote unless I pressed the enter button twice. I have replaced brand new batteries but the issue remain the same.I tried to test the Internet access and as I said in the sub menu, I have to press the enter button twice even at the few inches range away from the main unit, the unit went to a freeze mode with \" amplication malfunction\".I have the unit reset and I would not dare to go back to any sub-menu but I just use the function button for different sources such as Bluetooth, Aux,Dock...As far as the MOG and Spotify sounds thru the Pio Elite, I have no complaints. Compressed recording music is reproducing at its best. I may buy another unit from another dealer just in case this unit craps out after 30 days return.
  • Pretty much exactly what I had hoped for. Bought this as a refurb at a very good price and it arrived sealed, as promised, and in brand new condition.Unit looks great, the display is neat and the clock (with option to not have the clock) is actually handy.AirPlay setup was easy - you use the remote and the small display screen to enter your WiFi network and password. Once it on your network, your iPhone\'s airplay logo appears. You select it instead of the default option (your phone), and a few seconds later, you\'re playing music from your phone. It\'s that easy. My router (an older Netgear) doesn\'t have a WPS button, but I hear that\'s even easier for setup. The unit has two power modes - one \"normal\" where it\'s full off when it\'s off (maybe a few watts for standby - I\'m not sure), and another \"quick startup\" where your phone can awaken the unit. The manual states that this mode uses almost as much power as just leaving it on. I wanted to keep my unit out of the way (mounted on a high shelf in the room), so I\'m opting for the quick startup, but if you don\'t mind hitting the power button to use it, then you can save some energy. It does take about 20-30 seconds to fully startup from \"normal\" mode, and about 3 for \"quick startup\". At least you get a choice as to what works best for you.Sound quality is good. Not stellar, but not bad. Anyone just looking for a stereo for the home that they\'re not going to rock out to or try to DJ a party with should be pleased. It loses some fidelity as volume gets extra high. At lower volumes, it sounds good.I\'ve had a few drops while listening to music from my iPhone, but not alot and not too frequently, maybe 3 in the last 5 hours of use. It could also be my older router, or the fact that my battery was low on my iPhone 5. FYI - AirPlay doesn\'t seem to really take too much battery power. All in all, I\'m pleased with the product, especially at the refurb price (<$100 with shipping). Might even get a second one for another room - from what I understand you can operate more than one at once, and they sync perfectly from AirPlay. Hopefully.
