Sony MDRZX700 Outdoor Headphones
- I have had many different sound systems in my day and have had many different headsets. My favorite was Koss HV1. Those packed a punch and the highs will deafen you!Quite honestly these SUCK for a Sony product. I expected a lot better than this.I LOVE the short cable!!! If you plan on exercising with this bulky headset, you WILL lose lots of weight, but at your ears! lol I also would appreciate it if I can have a 1/8-1/4 adapter included, when I purchase a headset.Anyway, I connected (using my own gold plated adapter) to my CX630 pre, popped in a CD and listened to one song w/o EQ OR Amplification.ROUGHLY: 20-80Hz...Bass was basically non existent, until I raised the base setting all the way and pressed the headset closer to my head! Only then, did I have decent base. So, in effect, even though these are \"noise cancelling\" they \"Leak\".ROUGHLY: 1KHz-14KHz (max)...Mid Range...OH MY GOD! MOST DISAPPOINTING!!!I\'m a drummer and want to hear the FULL SPECTRUM when music is played, INCLUDING and ESPECIALLY my high hat! I could not decipher what was high hat and ride cymbal?Other people on here, have stated that the mid range was \"Muddled\"...they were being polite.ROUGHLY: 14KHz-21KHzHighs...LOUSY! I had the treble ALL THE WAY to distinguish the highs (esp, \'vocals\'). I could hear the singing, but unlike the highs that came out of my Koss headset, there was NO COMPARISON!Within the next few days, I am returning these. I paid $50.00 and don\'t think it\'s worth it. When I do listen to music w/a headset, I want clarity. Not a muddled music. If you want good quality clear highs, thumping bass and everything in between, these Sony MDRZX700 aren\'t for you!
- These are solid headphones. At this price range, it doesn\'t get much better. They are one of the few low-price phones to bother with a balanced signature instead of something \"fun\" like excessively warm (Grados) or bass-heavy (ATH-M50). This matters, because if you tire of bass emphasis (like most cheap phones), you had no options. Not now.The MDR-ZX700 sounds great. The balance is there, but so is the detail. Clear mids, and bass. Highs aren\'t harsh, and they have reasonable clarity without being too bright. They\'re kind of like more forgiving studio monitors. They are also pretty quick, which matters to me. I would also say they\'re pretty aggressive. They are also very comfortable. I have fairly large ears and the cups go around them. I also have a small head but they don\'t clamp unduly tight. Either way you can adjust the size (comfort with less pressure, or more pressure and better isolation but more comfort). They could have less pressure (but mine are new, so it should settle a tad looser in time) for me, but they are totally fine for an hour and a half or less for me, and probably longer for you.Build quality is good. Solid plastic, and nice clean industrial design. It looks like you are just someone who wears nice non flashy phones. It comes with only a mini jack and no adapter, and the cord is only 4 ft(which could be positive or negative). The cord is of reasonable quality though. And only 24 ohms! Easy to drive those large 50 mm drivers. At less than $100 these headphones are a steal.
- It\'s comfortable, not too heavy circumaural closed headphone. Like all circumaural closed headpones, it seals tight and doesn\'t leak any sound/air. Thus after prolong use (like an hour), my ears get a little bit warm. I have to lift up the cups and let the fresh air comes in.The sound is laid back, with good amount of bass details and extension, and nice mid-range. In contrast, the treble is not as sparkling as some of the IEM\'s (in-ear-monitors) I own. Overall, I like the whole fatigue-less sound package, especially for watching movies. The only lacking thing is soundstage, which is about average to below average. It doesn\'t have the width. The build, though everything is plastic, is very high quality. the plastic they use feel as sturdy as my Canon 100mm f/2.8 L lens(which is the first professional L lens uses engineered plastic for the body construction). It will definitely last a long time. The ear pads are soft pleather which feels very comfortable but not as plushy as the Sony XB500/700/1000 headphones.I\'ve not yet heard the flagship Z1000. but I would think at 1/5 of the Z1000 asking price, the ZX700 is definitely a good buy.
- Got them relatively cheaper at $72.The sound is clear and crisp. These do not have as much bass as sony mdr-xb500. So, I would not recommend for bass-heads. Tweaking the equalizer will get you a decent bass that is required, and these headphones respond to equalizer very well. The ear pads around the ear are soft but again not as sony mdr-xb500. They are not as deep, so the ear sometimes might touch the inside part of the speaker cushion (reason for 1 Star deduction).Sound leaking is very minimum. I compared them with mdr-xb500 and xb500 leak a lot of sound when compared to these headphones. The build quality is good and feels sturdy, not flimsy at all.The cord is Not detachable and is just around 4 ft (1.2 meter) in length. I am using these when I travel so good if you are traveling. It would have been better if the cord were detachable.
- I bought these so I could better listen to pink noise binaurals to help me sleep. The sound quality is decent and they fit well around the ears, but they are a bit too big for my head at their smallest setting and their adjustability is limited. So now I wear them on the train, and aside from slipping off my head a little, they mask outside noises well. Now people blathering into their phones right next to me is not nearly as irritating as it used to be. :DBut yeah, the size is still an issue. Even when they are around my neck stretched to their largest setting, it still feels like they\'re choking me because of how large the cups are. (And holy crap, will they make you sweat!) If I could make the size just a few inches bigger or smaller, these would be awesome.
