New-Call Recorder/Software with USB plug - DL-USB-LOGGER

  • I called the company to talk tech support(Tye is the only guy apparently). He was at first nice and curtious, but after explaining my issue and hearing him, this is what i get from this company:1. Their manual troubleshooting guide is s***.2. Their tech support is not s*** but is not good.3. Their explanations and settings are confusingAfter about ten minutes on the phone talking to Tye(their tech support) he could not resolve my issue with the recorder working less than half the time. He couldnt even clearly explaing two settings to me under the preference tab. So once I stumped him he was ready to get off the phone.Moral of the story: This is a foreign company. Your better off inventing this s*** yourself. Goodluck.EDIT: After some tinkering I did manage to get the recorder to work. HOWEVER, the settings that i adjusted made no sense. It was the transient noise sound adjuster. I adjusted it to short and it fixed my issue. I came back and gave 3 instead of 2/5 stars because it ended up working. But to get there was not as easy as I had hoped. And im an I.T. guy. I am also a programmer. So their foreign settings were just so confusing to me and made no sense. Even the support couldnt clearly explain a couple settings to me. Like come on DIGITAL LOGGERS, you should be able to do better than this considering you had 3 or 4 developers make this program. The execution/design/support for this program is that of a high school kid honestly. It just seems like novice people put the app together and said here you go its perfect. Give me a break
  • I don\'t know why some people seem to have a problem using this... 10 mins. and it was up and running. I got the USB one (not the MIC) one. The recording is clear and easy to find.If your calls are breaking up into smaller files, just set the moveable bar (on main page-under \"voice activation\") marked \"Start Level\" so it is about 1/2 an inch to the right of the moving green bar above it. And then set the \"Time Out\" (on the same page) to 30. It will keep recording after hang up until there is 30 seconds of silence (or sound below the moving green line). This will give it enough time to not end the file if there is a time of silence while being connected, put on hold, etc. You can also push the stop button (on the same page) if you are done with the call. Just make sure the VOX button is pushed in after.I haven\'t figured out how to make the caller info show up yet (I have caller ID) aside from the phone number only. But, you can add notes about the call from the \"View\" screen ( also on the main page) even while you are on the call.On that same page it lists \"Recording Device\". If you have a complicated sound system or more than one sound card/program (like me), make sure to choose whichever one shows the number \"AK5371\". That is the logger. It will not affect anything else on your system.
  • Just plug this beauty into your home phone line, and the other end into your computer USB port. Install the software. You will have a record of every landline call made on that telephone number, as well as a record of all phone numbers dialed out, and (if you have callerid) every phone number dialed in.Create a folder (in my case c:\tel) and this unit will create daily sub-folders named \"YYYYMMDDD\" and within that folder it will create audio files named \"HHMMSS.au\" with hours in 24 hour format.Download the fantastic VLC media player that plays nearly every video and audio format in the universe, click on the file name, and you will hear an excellent quality playback of the conversation. Please note that recording laws vary from state to state, in some states only one party is required to know the recorder is present, in other states both parties must know.I do have a trivial concern -- sometimes the system will break the calls into smaller file segments, in which case I have to use an audio editing program (like the free \"audacity\") to combine the files together. However this step is not mandatory as you can still click on the individual files to listen to their contents. I have a trouble ticket with the company but they have not yet addressed this issue.
  • Quality build, good audio clarity. It does not impinge on the ongoing call in any way. The software polish is about 95%. Quirks I ran into are: a) hard to choose the audio device if you are accessing the recording PC via Remote Desktop, and b) in some isolated cases (I haven\'t quite pinned it down) the recordings went to a folder with a name different than today\'s date. As future features it would be nice if a) a) the program could record in MP3 in addition to .AU, b) the program had an option to have the software start automatically when the PC starts (Windows has plumbing to support that, e.g. run the software as a service) and c) for outgoing calls the software captured the destination phone number from the DTMF tones and recorded them as part of the file name. The web site for the product is weak; I didn\'t find a place to download the logger software.
  • This little unit has much potential, however, the instructions aren\'t much help and when you phone them it is next to impossible to get any.The unit breaks lengthy conversations into several separate files....NOT GOOD. Also, keeps triggering Phantom calls...PAIN IN THE NECK.Voice of person on distant phone records very LOW and is hard to hear when playing back the recording.Hon is the go to guy, but he WON\'T return phone calls....
  • This works well but has a technical aberration that is both annoying and holds potential for failure. The setting on the recording device does not consistently stay where it has been placed........so it requires the settings to be checked before each use. When the setting is correct, this works very well and is certainly an economical option.
  • Worked well for a few weeks, but after that it shuts itself off for some reason and requires a reboot of the computer to get it working again. I don\'t know if it\'s a software or hardware bug.
