Sony MDRZX770BT Bluetooth Stereo Headset (Black)
- Very happy with these headphones. I\'m not an audiophile by any means, but I believe the quality of these headphones to be good. Not great, but good. And more than adequate for my needs. I use these headphones for listening to music but also at work or at home when I edit video. Pairing them is easy and the device I\'m connecting to picks it up immediately. I really like the NFC feature. The other day as I was leaving work I grabbed these off my desk (after having them being paired to my iMac) so I could listen to music on my way home. I simply had to touch my phone to the left side of these headphones (with NFC enabled, of course) and it paired to my phone immediately (I did this while wearing the headphones). This works really well and is honestly just really cool. There is a way to change the headphones\' priority settings. As I learned before I purchased them, by default the headphones are set to connection quality over audio quality. A simple Google search, or a search in these reviews, will show you how to change this. I changed it as soon as I got them so that audio quality was the priority, since I will never been more than a few feet from whatever device I am using at the time anyway. The quality difference is noticeable, but not as noticeable as I would have liked. This is not really a con, as it\'s more my expectations over something I did not know beforehand. Still, I feel like the quality overall could be better just a bit (again, not an audiophile, so I probably don\'t really know what I\'m talking about, but whatever).Comfort is on point! I wear glasses, so I\'m used to having to take off headphones to give my ears a break. These headphones are so comfortable I could wear them all day. This is huge for me as a glasses wearer, so I give Sony props for this. The controls on the right side are really nice, especially when you\'re on the go with your phone or iPod in your pocket. The headphones power up in a second and connect right away. There\'s an audible verification that plays letting you know when they\'re on or off. This is nice as the noise isn\'t super loud, even with the volume level up. There is also a little blue LED near the power button for you to visually see if they\'re on or off. This is nice because when I\'m at work and need to set them down I will often forget to turn them off. I can quickly look at them to know if they\'re on or off before I start blaring music from my computer thinking that my headphones are on when they\'re off =) Or so I can turn them off to save battery. They will turn off on their own after some time. Speaking of battery, the battery life on these are amazing! I don\'t use them 24/7, but I do use them for a few hours each day (editing video, and listening to music). I have only had to charge them once so far! After the initial charge of course. The real test would be to wear them all day for a large period of time to really get an idea of how many hours they\'ll last on a single charge, but that\'s not my use case. For me the battery life is amazing. The call quality is actually very good. I was really unsure about headphones like these with built in mics, but for each call I made or received I\'ve asked my caller if they can hear me okay, if I was clear, not cutting out, or if there was a lot of background noise. It\'s a little weird to talk with these on as you hear your own voice muffled, but I was very happy to hear that not a single caller had anything negative to say about hearing me clearly. In fact, no one who I asked even realized I was using a headset. The first call I made was walking down the street in West Philly with cars, buses and trolleys, and of course people, all around me. I had no complaints of being hard to hear clearly or tons of background noise. You can also answer and hangup a call by pressing the pause button on the headphones. To test the range, I left my phone in my room and walked through my living room all the way to the far end of my kitchen. My apartment isn\'t huge, but I was certainly farther than 30 ft away from my phone. I experienced no issues doing this. I could probably leave my phone in my living room and have no problems walking around my entire apartment while steaming music or making a call. All in all these are great headphones, and for the price they really are a great value.UPDATE December 8 2016Headphones do NOT power off by themselves after a period of inactivity. For some reason I thought they had this feature, but I\'ve left them on my desk at work a few times now and have returned to use them, put them on and power them up only to find out they were already on and I actually just powered them down. I\'ve also left them on overnight to come in the next morning and realize they\'re still on and connected to my computer. Good news though is they seem to hold a charge very well despite being left on for over 12 hours. Battery life is still on point, just remember to turn them off and battery life will be even better!
- I bought these headphones in 2016 and used them daily for a year before I upgraded. From then on I have always taken these on trips (to avoid losing or damaging my newer ones), let people borrow them, and have countless drops and these headphones are still just as good as they were the first day that I bought them! The main downside are that the ear cushions are starting to degrade and flake from time to time. The controls are intuitiveThe pairing is easyThe comfort is nothing to complain about for me
- When I first go them, I had some initial connectivity issues with my Vizio TV. They connected immediately on the first time, but would connect with no audio output. I unpaired/paired a dozen times, the headphones would show it being connected but no audio would come thru. I was about the send them back, when I had the idea of resetting the Vizio software and this solved the problem. Now the Sonys connect every time.So here\'s my review. Note that I got them refurbed for about $70. In the past, I have owned some very nice headphones, including the KOSS 4As and AT M50s, and some nice Sennheiser 300s, so I have some idea of what a good headphone should provide. The Sony 770BTs are my first Blutooth headset, and after reading tons fo reviews across the net, I thought these might fit by requirements and budget.I\'m old school when it comes to speakers and headphones, just play exactly what is in the recording, with no emphasis on a part of the sound spectrum. I want the widest and deepest soundstage as possible, deep bass when it\'s in the recording, smooth and slightly warm mid-range, especially on vocals, and crisp accurate highs without the ice pick in the ear effect. I want audiophile like qualities at a great price. Well, these are not true audiophile level quality, but in certain moments, with the right music content, they do have some shining moments.I listen to a wide variety of music, from 70\'s rock, the blues, fusion jazz, acapella vocals, bluegrass and lots of stringed instrument recordings. I\'m not into HipHop, Techno, or Heavy metal. So in my testing, I listened to songs that I have used throughout the years as references when auditioning audio gear. For bass, I listen to Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, with Victor Wooten. Listen to Flight of the Cosmic Hippo or The Message. For vocals and midrange I listen to Eva Cassidy\'s Fields of Gold, Adele\'s Someone Like You, and Alison Krause\'s Ghost in This House. For the highend, I really like Fourplay\'s Licorice and The Rippingtons - Black Diamond, which has great bass and mids too.So, with that as my background, I found the 770BTs to provide very good bass that wasn\'t muddy, but had good transient response. If it\'s the recording, these will reproduce it accurately, without any additional thump that phones like Beats are noted for. Like I said, I\'m old school! The mid-range is ever so diminished, but accurate without making vocals sound chesty or squarky sounding. The highs are crisp and tight, never overbearing. So, from a tonal perspective, these are very nice. The soundstage is not great, although stereo separation is spot on. It just doesn\'t \"put me in the front row\" when I close my eyes and listen. I haven\'t tried any really highend phones, and maybe they can do that, but I suspect with single drivers in each cups, there is no room and distance to reveal the spacial information of instrument location. My home audio has spoiled me.From a comfort level, they are good for about 2 hours before I start to feel the pressure. I wear glasses, and the pressing on the bows by the earcups becomes uncomfortable, but I found a solution that works for me. I put the headphones on first, and then put my glasses on. They have a spring loaded hinge so it works, and now they are more comfortable that at first. The earcups are quite large and do a good job of blocking out external sounds.Build-wise, they look OK, the band is covered with a leather like material. The earcups are plastic and you can easily see that, but they are stylish, and the cups fold 90 degrees when you set them down, which I like. My one complaint about the controls is that I wished the Volume controls were a little taller, just like the music player controls. One other note, the 770BT model does NOT have a means to connect an audio cable to your cellphone or laptop/tablet. It\'s just Blutooth and that\'s all.As I mentioned in the beginning I got these refurbed for $70, new cost is $100 give or take 5 bucks. The 770BNs, which provide active noise cancellation and an audio connection are much more. So, bottom line, I\'d but another set of these if they broke. They\'re accurate, easy to use, and comfortable at a great price.
