The Joy Factory Ultra Rugged Waterproof, Military Grade, Shockproof, Case with Built in Heavy-Duty Screen Protector compatible with iPad 2/3/4th Gen (CWA101)
- So I am a dock builder and wanted to be able to take the ipad out to meet with potential clients and also use at home and in the office. The ipad is just too slippery cause my hands are so dry and calloused. So needed drop protection. Wet work environment so of course waterproof is important. I am afraid that some metal clips in briefcase could break the glass so I liked the idea of the screen protector. While I personally chose not to keep the aXion Pro and my cons are far greater than the pros. This is a great product for its intended purpose. Personally I think if Joy was too put this case on a diet and make an alternate version, say (aXtion lite) it could give lifeproof a run for its money. My thoughts on it below.Pro\'s:-This case definitely would work for the military or anybody else planning on being in an abusive environment.-The touch screen worked well enough thru plastic screen protector.- Followed the directions and case tested as waterproof although I never was brave enough to intentionally dunking it in the water with ipadCons:-Power button is very very easily depressed by accident . If I pushed little to hard on touch screen it would trip the sleep/power button on ipad. Which was a lot easier than actually using the real power button provided, but super annoying when using. Also ipad would accidently turn off if I slightly bumped it just shifting around. Basically its just way to tight of a fit and not enough clearance for power button. I attempted to remove and adjust multiple times but was not successful at making any difference.- Screen protector doesn\'t sit down against the screen so it is slightly spaced away from ipad around the perimeter but tries to stick against the screen in middle. In doing so it is very inconsistent and looks really bubbled. Didn\'t notice it creating a problem while using and couldn\'t feel it with my fingers but was just annoying to see. (I\'m just being picky)- This case adds some serious weight! This case is built for extreme duty, its a tank built to toss around on the floor of the truck or take to a dirty dusty jobsite. Its the one I would buy if I had a need for my employees to carry with them out in to the construction project and on boats and barges. It definitely would by my first choice.- Something that really bothered me was the way the case is made. There is a large round raised lip on the back to accept multiplebrackets and adapters. Well the lip of the ring extends farther out the back than the rubber feet do on the corners by 1/8\". So if you set it on the desk and try to type it is easily tipped and sliding around. I don\'t understand why it has to be so big. There is nice heavy rubber corners that would be perfect if allowed to contact the table. If I wasn\'t already returning it I would seriously consider taking a belt sander to it. There is just no need for the lip to be formed so big. In my opinion its a bad oversight by the designers. In summary, This case is undoubtedly built for extreme environments. I wouldn\'t hesitate to toss it in the truck, work boat, heck even the lake!Prior to purchasing this case I spent a good amount of time researching each option carefully reading every single feedback. So I thought I had chosen the best for me. Given that I wasn\'t satisfied with my first choice, and before returning this Joy aXtion Pro, I have now purchased all the cases for comparison. So now I have tried the Joy (aXion Pro), LifeProof (Nuud), OtterBox (Defender) and OtterBox (Reflex). Ultimately I chose the LifeProof Nuud. Boy, I sure hope that amazon will return the one\'s I dont want! This could be the most expensive case purchase ever!! I will try to leave feedback for the others also.
- I bought this case because it allows charging without taking the iPad out. I take my iPad on weekend and week-long sailing trips and being able to keep it in the case all the time is a big plus. The case is solidly built; its rigid sides should protect the iPad if it slips off the navigation desk or falls on the cockpit floor. The case arrived and I filled the sink with water to test it. The instructions said to submerge it in 12 inches of water. The only container I have that\'s 12 inches deep and big enough to hold this case is my bathtub. I didn\'t want to waste that much water. So the case with the cardboard \"test\" iPad went into the full to the brim kitchen sink. A half hour or so later I plunged my hand in and pulled the plug. After mopping up the water that spilled over the edge of the sink, I removed and dried off the case. Was that? Could it really be? Yes. The cardboard iPad was wet. When the case was fully dry on the outside I opened it and found the problem. The edge of the cardboard iPad was pinched in the seal. And thus I discovered the big problem with this case. It is incredibly difficult to close it properly.I fussed with it, sliding the two halves together and trying to rotate the six latches and engage the two clips. Time after time I could not get the two halves to click together properly. I went to the manufacturer\'s web site and watched the training video. Note to Joy Factory -- if your consumer product requires a video to do the most basic function, you have a problem. The guy in the video made it look simple -- slide-click-twist-twist-twist-twist-twist-twist-click-click-Joy. I mopped my brow and tried it again, on a hard, flat surface with the edge hanging off the side so I could get a grip on the latches at the crucial moment. Finally I succeed. I opened it once more, put in a paper towel, and tested it again. No water after an hour in the sink.I am not inept. I get mechanical things. I have lots of gadgets that I manipulate successfully. This case is incredibly inconvenient to use, and quite honestly I worry that I won\'t get the seal right when I put my expensive iPad in it. I have not yet had the opportunity to take the iPad sailing and test out the usability of the transparent screen cover. I do know that while I\'ll be comfortable the the iPad is protected from bumps and accidental moisture, I am not willing to take it underwater or leave it out in a downpour -- the kinds of exposures that a case like this should protect against. I just don\'t trust it, or my ability to properly seal it.
- This think is rugged! It does just what I need. The reason I give 1 less star because the item doesn\'t come with the metal adaptor for the Joy Factory mounts. This makes for removing it from the mount a problem due to the other reason it lost another star. It doubles the weight of the iPad. This isn\'t too much of a problem unless you are removing it from a mount. This case also has the iPad buttons controlled by the camera. The buttons are hard to get feedback from and come across stiff. I understand that if you buy the mounts direct you can get the needed metal ring for mounting. I had my Valet mount prior to getting this case. I am still going to follow up with The Joy Factory directly about getting the part required. Just wish this item was packaged with unit. The other thing is sound. It pushes the sound out the back and this isn\'t great when you are a driver and the thing is mounted behind your head. I wish the speakers \"vents\" directed the sound front seeing that is where the user is. This is a product issue seeing Apple designed the speaker pointed rear. But with the case as big as it is this shouldn\'t be a problem to make a channel system to allow audio to move forward. Here are the Pros...This thing handles everything. My 18 month old has thrown it and stood on it I even stepped on it... It also took a trip down the 21 steps in my house. Took it to the beach and sand was all over it, just wash it off or take it in the ocean. Yeah, no need to take the iPad out just wash and go.Great product just wish it had some tweaks to the design!I will update the review once I contact manufacture on the adapter required for valet mount.
